Pot-bellied, balding and opinionated
Submitted by webmaster on Tue, 11/13/2007 - 3:55pm.Syed Nazri, NST
The comment about the old teachers was brief but very sentimental at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) Old Boys' reunion dinner on Saturday.
It came from Datuk Seri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas, the old boys' association president, who in his speech paid tribute to those who had taught at the school, a few of whom were fit enough to be present at the annual function.
"To you and all our teachers, there's no way we can repay you. Look at what you've made us become -- pot-bellied, balding and very opinionated. But underneath all that, you made us believe in ourselves to achieve our dreams and ambitions."
More than 1,000 people attended the dinner at Hotel Istana in Kuala Lumpur, including Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah, Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Jaafar Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, who is also chairman of the MCKK board of governors.
Megat Najmuddin was absolutely right about the old boys being too opinionated because discussions at the dinner table that night centred on nothing but current affairs -- the impending general election, the just-concluded Umno assembly, a street demonstration earlier in the day in Kuala Lumpur, etc.
Even the play staged by the old boys took a cynical look at the latest events as they did a spoof of Malaysia's first man in space and the national angkasawan project as well as news on the controversial video clip that has allegedly implicated the former chief justice.

Sigbritt Löthberg, from Karlstad in central Sweden, enjoys a massive 40Gbps connection - many thousand times faster than the average connection speed delivered to homes. It's the first time such a high speed as ever been delivered to a home user anywhere in the world.
Sigbritt has only recently taking up computing. She is the mother of Swedish 'internet legend' Peter Löthberg, who arranged the connection along with the local council's network department.

Submitted by webmaster on Sun, 07/22/2007 - 8:29pm.PUTRAJAYA, July 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Indonesia tonight signed an Addendum of Cooperation between Malaysian and Indonesian schools as a continuation to the Memorandum of Understanding on education, which was signed by both countries in August 1998.
The addendum was signed by Education Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Zulkurnain Awang, on behalf of Malaysian schools, and Prof Dr Fasli Jalal, the Director-General of the Indonesian National Education Department, representing the Indonesian schools.
The signing of the document was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Indonesian Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, at Sri Satria, the official residence of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Najib also hosted a dinner for the Indonesian delegation at his official residence.
The Education Ministry said in a statement that the Addendum of Cooperation was included in the concept of school linkages between both countries encompassing aspects such as leadership, information technology, arts and sports at the secondary and primary school levels.
"These school linkages, which had been agreed upon by Malaysia and Indonesia involved schools which have been identified for the linkage and they include the Prime Minister's school (Bukit Mertajam High School), the Deputy Prime Minister's school (St John's Institution, Kuala Lumpur), the Education Minister's school (Malay College Kuala Kangsar), Higher Education Minister's school (Sultan Ismail College, Kota Baharu) and the schools of the Indonesian President (Sek Menengah Atas Negeri (SMAN) I, Pacitan, East Jawa), Vice-President (SMAN III Makasar, South Sulawesi) and the National Education Minister (SMAN I, Tumanggung, Central Jawa)," the statement added.
NST Editorial: No quarter for sadism
Submitted by webmaster on Thu, 07/19/2007 - 11:49am.The plaintive protests of some of the parents of students expelled from Mara Junior Science Colleges in Negri Sembilan and Johor, begging that their offspring be allowed to sit their SPM exams, might have been heart-wrenching — if not for public sympathy being rightly reserved for their bruised, battered and broken victims. Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, whose ministry oversees Mara, is absolutely right not to heed these requests. Do these parents not realise that their teenagers have become sadistic bullies?
They travel far and wide for this ‘pau’

Mention Kuala Kangsar and one of the first things that comes to mind is Malay College Kuala Kangsar. But when MCKK students reminisce about their alma mater, what comes to their memory is a little restaurant called Yut Loy, as M. HUSAIRY OTHMAN discovers
Megat Mohd Shahrin Hamdan says Yut Loy is a students’ meeting place (right), Azemi Zainol Abdin says ‘pau’ like this is not available elsewhere (left)

Syed Nadzri
THE Raja Muda of Perak, Dr Raja Nazrin Shah, couldn’t have made it clearer enough — the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) should be given the opportunity to be a prime mover in the country’s shift towards a more advanced education system.
For the second time in about a year, he said the education programme at the college, one of the oldest fully-residential schools in Malaysia, should be implemented using a new and more contemporary method and approach.
At the MCKK Speech Day two days ago, he said 21st century challenges demanded critical reforms in the education system, geared towards producing the right human capital.

A very big thank you to MCOBA for providing the awards, and an even bigger thank you to those who participated. In the past two months of the existance of this site, we have collectively created close to 500 pages of content. Some pages are brilliant blog entries, while some others are just simple pictures. But all of them are valuable to the MCOBA community. They are the reflections of our thoughts, our emotions, and our will. They are the products of our creativity to be shared with the world. They are our pride, passion and tradition.
We shall continue the total score tally until the end of 2006 to find out who will be the 2006 champion in those four categories.
Keep the contents coming. Thank you again.
