An open comment to all our "Wakils" on both sides of the aisle

Dear All,

The writer of the following comment is my first cousin whose late father, Abdul Aziz Awang Mustapha aka "Bhai" was the kolet headboy in 1951/52. He did not joined kolet although his elder brother did. He is in his mid 30s and I can assure you that what he wrote is more or less representative of the opinions of many among his peer group (my eldest son included).

O La Paloma Blanca

When the sun shines on the mountains,
and the night is on the run,
it's a new day,
it's a new way,
and I fly up to the sun.

I can feel the morning sunlight.
I can smell the new-morn hay.
I can hear God's voices calling
off my golden skylight way.

O La Paloma Blanca,
I'm just a bird in the sky.
O La Paloma Blanca,
over the mountains I fly.

Yes, no one can take my freedom away.
Once I had my share of losing,
once they locked me on a chain.
Yes, they tried to break my power.
Oh I still can feel the pain.

O La Paloma Blanca,
I'm just a bird in the sky.

Mcobs in Parliament

Several members of the FSV Publication Sub-Committee, through the good office of YB Dato' Sri Nazri Aziz, were invited to parliament on a recent Wednesday in May. We managed to meet all of them; from both sides of the aisle; except YBM Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah who was not in Parliament on that particular Wednesday.

Middle East?

There is no Middle East
By Hamid Golpira

Where exactly is the Middle East, anyway, and why is this term being used?

There are no precisely defined borders for this region.
In addition, it is a Eurocentric term originally meant to demarcate the region between the Far East and the Near East, with all these terms defined based on the regions’ geographic location in relation to Europe.

Along these lines, in relation to Mecca, Palestine could be called the Near West.

Malay Politics 101: Perception Management is Critical Success Factor (CSF) No.1

Dear All,

Among the educated critically thinking Malaysians; and obviously include all old boys of varied political inclinations; it is not uncommon for us to feel offended but mostly we sincerely feel that our political masters must have taken the electorate for fools.

Why is this so ?

Well, I can write a thesis on this phenomena but I would instead choose to ask readers whether they agree with my observation and if you do, why not provide an example.

Monarchy an Integral part of the nation

As reported in Bernama:

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- The monarchy in Malaysia is an integral part of the country as well as a symbol of identity, continuity, unity and strength and, contrary to some opinion, is not all form and no function, the Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, said tonight.

It is a symbol of identity because it is a national institution, one that distinguishes this country from all others, and it is a symbol of continuity because the monarchy in Malaysia is an old institution and provides a sense of historical significance to the people, he said.

"It is a symbol of unity because it is a focal point for citizens of all races, religions and political persuasions to rally around. And it is a symbol of strength because it exemplifies the virtues of justice, mercy and honour," he said at a public lecture entitled "50 Years of National Development and Nationhood" at the Khazanah Nasional Development Seminar, here.

Pentagon, 9/11 and Flight 77

Camus's picture

We all know that there are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 events.

This particular site presents a Flash documentary of the Pentagon supposedly being hit by a missile instead of Flight 77 as we've been told.

Nice graphics. Worth viewing. Check it out:

Syabas untuk Syabas

So, having suffered the smelly water, caused by pigs(!), in my taps last week, I was rather amused to read that Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd (PNHB) is projected to post a profit of RM 140.4 million in 2006.

Puncak Niaga is of course the first water treatment and supply concession company to be listed on Bursa Malaysia under the Infrastructure Project Company guidelines issued by the Securities Commission.

Syabas, which is 70% owned by PNHB, was given the concession to take over, operate, maintain, manage, rehabilitate and refurbish 27 existing water treatment plants formerly under the management of Perbadanan Urus Air Selangor Berhad (PUAS)
