Crab football was introduced to us by our P.E teacher, Mr. Amirthalingam.
It was played in the gym. There was no limit to the no. of players in the team.
Attire : black shorts only
Rules : basically none but no player is allowed to stand. The maximum one can stationary raise himself will be the 'duck-squat' position, thus most of the time players would be in the crab-like position.
It combined the essence of rugby, football and water-polo but no rules, no rests and we used the volleyball.
Yup, we had that too, but I do not think that we played that all the way to Form V. I don't remember it resembling anything like football or water-polo. It was all rugby, and with legit forward passes. And during my time, it was the closest game that could resemble one of the deadly games conjured up in the comice 2000AD (the name of which I do not remember). 2000AD and Judge Dredd - anime of the 80s.
It was called Rollerball. But it was quite sissy because they used sticks, skates, armours etc, etc.
Crab Footbal was pure pain.
It was quite football because you get to kick anyone and water-polo because you get to swim in the raw sweat of also someone.
Standing(L-R): Ehsan Atan, Dr Tengku Shahrom, Dr Ahmad Hilmy, Pahmi Moktar, Dino, Prof Shuk (now TNC USM), Amran Shahmail, Aziz Prowler, Malek Johar, Prof Dr Zulfigar Yassin (USM), Hisham Badrul (Spice), Dr Ahmad Hisham Long
Squatting (L-R) Amir "John" Hassan, Saad Mat Nor, Rozman "Kabung" Khalid", Halim Malek, Fauzi Hassan
Crab Football
Is this the game that is played like rugby (with no high tackle) but the volleyball can be passed forward?

In case of a sudden-death, NO RULES apply.

Without their smiles I would have thought they were POWs from PI.
Probably Kolet food was not nutritious enough.
