it being worn by the Pahang State Tourism Council dancers during one of my MCP assignments at
TV3.Some friends from ANSARA even told me that it is now being worn by the current students at
MRSM Taiping.I say man,how can,man........

3.Sdr Jak Li once showed me the MCKK sampin before this current motif: ade green, even orange
stripes thingy: NASIB BAIK someone chose this motif!

Re: Crest on samping motif

I hv mentioned previously that the Kolet sampin was designed sometime in the 1930's and made to order by Terengganas weavers. The design consisted of the three main colours of yellow(MDShahHouse/NS), red (SulaimanHouse/Sel)and black (AhmadHouse/Phg) and of course their derivatives when they overlap to come out as purplish/pinkish/maroonish/whatever else.
The sampin is meant to be won with white (IdrisHouse/Perak) baju-seluar Melayu and black kopiah/songkok and white canvas shoes or black leather shoes.
While that was so decided as MCKK full Malay dress as alternative uniform but it was not made compulsory until 1959/60 or use during specific functions.
Therefore wearing the sampin with other than white Malay baju-seluar or other than black songkok/kopiah is not proper, while not wearing a songkok/kopiah is not complete.
A variation of the sampin, to include some benang emas threading was unofficially adopted as an option, to differentiate between presentboy and oldboy-wearers.

Re: Crest on samping motif

Blue and maroon blazers were not introduced earlier than the Kolet sampin or Kolet tie.
Sampin and Kolet ties use subdued red (almost maroon) rather than actual bright red (merah menyala) to represent SulaimanHouse. However I notice that recent versions of MCKK neckties, perhaps prodced in Siam, seem to be of more reddish in colour.
The MCKK tie must have influenced the Headmaster to choose burgundy or maroon (merah hati) for the colour of the alternative blazers worn by the supermortals i.e. prefects to the dark blue blazers for normal mortals i.e. the non-prefects.

In any case the three more popular colours for blazers worldwide are (i) navy/dark blue, (ii) maroon/burgundy and (iii) graphite, compared to iv) grey (v) green and (vi) brown. Traditionally those six colours are the the preferred ones by the KingJames Court people who somewhat shunned the other colours which are considered too loud for royal sighting, such as red, orange, purple, pink or even gold if worn by boys/men.

With strong American influence over or ignorance of or plain protest against British practices, such rules of behaviour or attire are less emphasised nowadays. But it would be safer and more dignified to abide by them, as many international codes of behaviour and protocol are based on British practices and experience. Likewise therefore when we wear lounge suits, preferably we should wear plain white or off-white shirts with any one of the six types of neckties deemed proper by the KingJamesCourt people. These are (i)regimental type i.e. single background colour with diagonal stripes like MCKK's,(ii) Ivy league type i.e. those with sprinkles of crests like MCKK's alternative ties (iii) paisley design type i.e. those amoeba-like aka kerengkoi-kerengkoi patterns (iv) polkadot type i.e. single plain colour with small dots (v) single solid colour but not black (except for mourning) and not very loud i.e. warna wel-wel aka deepavali colour and (vi)sports club type i.e. plain or small-lined stripes with a single crest between the usual tie-pin position and the knot. The College used to give that kind of ties as 'colour awards' for sports excellence ie. the single maroon-coloured ties with a single MCKK coat-of-arms.
