Group Photo- revival of the long stockings

Re: First Thoroughbreds -1974 (form 3

A near perfect formation for a group photograph. Even the trios standing on ground at both ends formed a V-shape while those seated wore stockings of almost the same length and crossed ankles in corresponding fashion. There seems to be no deviants among them and therefore at Form Three level, I believe there was no heroes then. Heroes necessarily are deviants. Probably there would be a few in upper Forms since there should be some deviants as they progressed.
Kahkahkah.

Re: First Thoroughbreds -1974 (form 3

SD,
How do we label mcobs who entered kolet at KP and stayed on right thru Upper 6 ? Now that some batches have staked a claim to being the "Thoroughbred", with obvious pride it seems, whereas this a term which was already used/known in 1967 when I was in Prep.

Your take Sir SD yth please ?

PS:
For the information of readers/visitors to this site, SD is our "kolet historian" par excellence. Ana respect (dan "sayang") kat Pak Tuan ni.

Re: First Thoroughbreds -1974 (form 3

TanSri Dr Khalid Sahan formerly DG of Health used to describe his batchmate at Kolet TanSri Alwi Jantan and the rest who joined Kolet from Primary (i.e. KP if they joined Kolet between 1951-58 or PrepSchool during other years mainly except 1955 when Std 4A boys were housed in KP while Std 4B were put up at PrepSchool) all the were to HSC or previously called Post School Cert classes or Pre-university classes as "TrueBlueCollegians"
The Thoroughbreds here obviously and conveniently forgot that there had been more justifiable 'thoroughbreds' earlier. But they preferred the title to describe themselves, perhaps in comparison with those who were their contemporaries at Kolet but who joined Kolet in a truncated manner at different levels. But so long as it does not hurt others and genuinely manifests their pride and passion for themselves as Budak-budak Kolet, why pick up that as an issue.

I also observe that present Alumni of Universiti Malaya mainly led by the Malay-medium students thereof will want to celebrate the University's diamond jubilee (ie. 60th) anniversary, counting from 1949. But in 1949 the formation of the University of Malaya was at Singapura-pura with the amalgamation of the Raffles College and the KEVII College of Medicine by a charter granted by the British monarch then, King George the Sixth. The present Universiti Malaya began as a University College i.e. a small branch of the main Singapore Campus after 1958 and completely separated by 1963. The main Campus then called itself the University of Singapore and later when it merged with the NanyangThaXoay aka Nanyang University, it makes itself known as the National University of Singapore. Being realists and non-ceremonial enthusiasts, they cannot be bothered who claim what as they donot count their age as an issue but their quality and academic prowess in the world situation.
So back to Kolet, the Thorougbreds and the TrueBlues (many batches are so before 1958 intakes) should live and let live....or if they prefer they can be variously called TroughBreds TroughBrats TaruhBrats Tirubulus TrueBulus or even Kelirublue or HarubiruBlues. Kahkahkah.
