House of Sundanese Food [Feb '06]

House Of Sundanese Food/ 4th Floor – Suria KLCC/ Kay Ell

I know of this restaurant for quite a long while. I first tried this restaurant in 1998 or 99 about the time Suria KLCC was opened. The food here is good, excellent for a South East Asian, rice based cuisine. My wife and I were at the Sundanese (not Sundalese) yesterday 8/2/2006. In the crowd, I thought I saw some red-stripes (being a Wednesdaya) [probably Class of 1980] dining there as well.

Setting : Easily, it could house 100 pax comfortably, additional (a bit uncomfortably for diners) will tax the service speed, in Balinese teak chairs and tables. The décor is of course Sundanese. (And at one time, it had another outlet at Bangsar Shopping Centre. Ithink it closed down late 2005).

A Malay-like menu, the highlights includes ikan of various descriptions. The three dishes for me will be Ikan Bakar (with excellent paste on them), Ayam Bumbu Rojak and Sambel Terong. If you try these, you can’t go wrong. They also serve reasonably good teh tarik. But the coffee, nah… For coffee turn left as you exit, go down one floor via the escalator to *$.

Price : RM98.10 for two, additional – Ice Kacang. Last year it had 10% off for Citibank Card Members - promotion. With the promotion expired, we paid full price. Last Ramadhan, we sat down for 12 pax for about RM555/-. So I think RM50 per pax would about cover it.

Appraisal: Will definitely go there some more! But if possible, try to not have any food the previous ten hours.

Definitely one of the outlets which helped me put the additional 5 kilos.
