Kingtho Futsal 2006 - Vaji game

Bangkok 15 July 2006 - The Kingtho Futsal Team had arrived in Bangkok on Thursday 13 July 2006. On Friday, two more players (they used to play in Striking Devils back in Form One) arrived to make it a 10-men team. We left our hotels at 10.00 am on Saturday and headed for Vajiravudh College (Vaji). By 11.00 am, the team was readily assembled at the OV Restaurant, Vaji. "

The OV coordinator explained that the Futsal captain was still sleeping and there some minor glitches in getting the game of the ground. He had inspected the ground earlier and decided that we could not play in the Menam Chao Phraya like field in front of the OV Restaurant. They have found the driest patch somewhere at the Southwestern corner of Vaji, and by the time we got there, they were still chalking up the place. The goals were brought in: size 8 ft wide, 4 ft high.

The game started at 12 pm. This time, it was being played on 7 side basis and 10-10 minutes. The OV team is now composed of 4 OVs and about 12 present Vaji Boys. The field was double the futsal size and about 40% waterlogged. Kingtho was definitely going to be out of shirt.

OV-Vaji team opened scoring early and it was really against the run of play. Kingtho knees were becoming suspect. Nevertheless, we pulled our socks up and replied scoring to make the score 1-1. Still it was a tough game, and by the end of 1st 10 minutes we were 3-1 down.

Second half we made some changes, the way Shah wanted it. We pulled one back to make it 3-2, Vaji way.

Since Vaji had not used their reserves, we played another 10 minutes and with two minutes from the end, Kingthos were leading 4-3. In the spirit of sportsmanship and desert play, Kingthos decided to make frontal assault on OV-Vaji goal and with three OV men counter attack, leaving Mdi and Nik on back feet. The ball pinballed into Kingtho goal for a 4-4 draw.

OV - Vaji, a whole lot of them, and only 1 with silver hair.
