Lagu Soraksokong Pasukan Rugbi 1958

We are fifteen stalwarts
Forwards and fast backs
And when we go upon the field
They call us “The All-blacks”
But if you are worried
Who will win
We tell you now “Relax”
Hurrah for the first XV!

This song is swelling
All along the line
The music is exciting
And the sentiments are fine
In honour of the College team
That’s yours and mine
Hurrah for the first XV!

Re: Lagu Soraksokong Pasukan Rugbi 1958

Get Back to Your sideline of the Field.

Re: Lagu Soraksokong Pasukan Rugbi 1958

I attended an Octogenarian's anniversary celebration dinner at the Marriott on 22nd and met
Suhaimi Kamaruddin our Cheergang Leader of 1958. That Rugby song was sung for about
two years during the formative period of MCKK Rugby which started in 1956 during the furlough
of Headmaster JDR Howell who probably would not have allowed it being played. The first team tried
by Historymaster NJ Ryan in 1956 during the temporary tenure of Headmaster GHB Hughes, was
the Under-fifteen XV. It was so successful that the First XV was formed in the Merdeka year, which
was allowed by Howell when he returned from furlough owing to the Kolet super-success, beating
even the KEVII team that was the NorthMalaya School champions. Of course our Kolet bus became
the victim of much vandalism caused by the losing team's supporters.
When Suhaimi left no new Cheerleader was found and the Rugby song, despite being a very good
morale booster also disappeared.
Suhaimi Kamaruddin aka Suhaimi 'cengkurik' remembers vaguely the song but not the lyrics.
I do hope that the Kolet would be interested to revive it before even the few that know it disappear.
