Service in Restaurants

Earlier, I touched on table manners.

The reason I am writing here is simply because this is my town. It may not get to the people who did the things I refer in my page, but who knows, some body will benefit.

Often times, we assume that people know how to do certain work. I am sure that today, a lot of people assume that it is easy to be a clerk, no, secretary. But we will leave that for another day.

Yesterday, 15 February, my 16 y.o. son and I were looking for a place to have our lunch. We decided to stop at one of the Malay restaurants at section 7. Restaurant owners should take note - after all you put in hundreds of thousand in the restaurants - you do not want it to go down the drain due to bad service.

Since it was one of the newer ones, we decided to have a go, after all we saw that other people were patronising it to.

(1) One thing I noticed was that the waitress, in fact chief waitress came over to give us the menu. As expected, what you wanted to ask would suddenly be available only in the evening. That was not really the problem. But when I ordered, she did not repeat my order and wrote them down as she was going away. True enough, on a hot day, she assumed that I wanted a hot beverage when what I asked for was a cold one.

(2) When they corrected the serve, I only had a room temperature : Ice mixed with 70 degree celcius can only cool down so much.

(3) Food was served reasonably quick but all the waitresses refuse to make eye-contact (despite being in proper uniform). If the business owner was prepared to have uniformity, you would expect a slightly better contact. I asked for some chilli sauce; it came in a side bowl, which is good - but she only put it at the edge of my table. I reckon that's rude.

(4) My bill ran up to RM16.00 but when I gave the cashier RM50, she asked me to wait a while because they ran out of RM1 notes. Amazing - you have 80 seats in your restaurants but you are not prepared to give out change.

I certainly hope that they will improve. We do not want them to close down because we also do not want to have nasi kandar or mee mamak every day.
