Something Wrong with GMail?

Camus's picture

Is it just me, or are there others getting the same experience? Eversince Google intergrated a chat service in GMail a couple of days ago, their regular free online mail service isn't as responsive as it used to be. It takes a while for the screen to refresh making the general user experience not as peppy as it used to be.

Or was it because their stock plummeted and they lost USD16 billions in market capitalization last week? And one interesting site I stumbled upon has all the bad things to say about the internet giant.

I might have to go back to Yahoo!

If there's something wrong with you then I'm not sure where...

I have gmail account and it's " service isn't as responsive as it used to be" as what you have said. It takes "ages" to refresh...

Why not try www.30gigs.com as they give 30 gigs of space...

Or you stick back to Yahoo!!

i still go for gmail

Gmail is way way ahead when compared to yahoo. Right now, we are thinking that it's better with googlegroups rather then yahoogroups. And email security protocol adopted by gmail is technologically superior than yahoo.

In 2004, when gmail was conceived, the plan was a 5GB storage. So if you guys love that storage capacity, NEVER DELETE MAILS and let's all of us gmail-users chalked up more than 70% storage in-use i.e. by DEC 2006.

Yup, GMail still has the most functionalities

Until, Google's competitors come up with something with more functionalities, I'd prefer to stick with GMail too.

But fundamentally, on top of those bells and whistles, the service has to perform what it's supposed to in the first place, i.e. send and receive e-mails without much hassle. At the moment, we occasionally get the message that their mail server is down and unable to process our request and we gotta come back in a few minutes. That's not too nice.

gmail + gspace

To get most out of the unused space - try these two combination: Mozilla Firefox (a better alternative to IE) + Gmail Space Extension (gspace).

Gspace allows you to upload files into Gmail. Unless if you intend to use the mailbox as a dedicated gspace storage, it might be helpful if you could first create a filter for Subject: [GSPACE] (without the []) and mark "Skip Inbox" and mark the filter expression with [gspace] label. By doing this all your GSPACE will not appear in the Inbox and wont be downloaded via POP/SecurePOP mail downloads.

If you begin to upload the files without setting the proper filter expressions - "Skip Inbox" and "Filter, you will end up getting all your stuff mixed with emails.

URLs:

Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/
GSPACE : https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=1593&application=f...
or search for "gspace" extension.

Happy uploading....
