Table Manners

Somehow, it is exasperating to enjoy a meal when your dining partner lacks etiquette. Whilst we purport that Malays are cultured, it is hardly true when we see this in everyday life. Hard to believe, right but that's the truth. I have a strange feeling that some where in our youths, we suddenly lose what we were taught of when we were smaller, if it was ever taught.

Yesterday, (14 February 2008) I was at Pizza Hut after taking my 4 y. o. son to the clinic. He wanted to eat Pizza. Whilst I was there, I suddenly noticed a woman, not yet 30s, dressed in work clothes dining in a group. What I noticed about her was that she was eating pizza using fork and knife [Correct Italian way, but Americans use hands]. No, my complaint was not about that. I like people who eat their lunch with fork and knife. Especially hairdressers. If they use their hands, and they ate curry or sambal belacan, your hair is a goner, if you have an appointment in the afternoon.

My complaint was that she was gesticulating during her conversation, but she did not put the fork and knife down. That's terrible, pointing knife at people. What do you think?
