World Health Day, or, A Prayer For Malek Maulud

Salam & salutations.

Dear all MCOBS,

Today, Friday 7th April, 2006 is World Health Day. It's a time to assess our health, our lifestyles, our eating habits etc. Most years that was all there was to it for me, but this year it has a deeper meaning.

Today itself, even as I'm typing this, our fellow Brother Abdul Malek Maulud is in the Intensive Care Unit at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital. He's going to undergo an open heart surgery for a bypass operation scheduled at 11 a.m. I was informed about this by Hazlinda, his colleague-turned-friend-turned-cousin (I think she's a qualified mcobaNITA by now), who has been keeping vigil together with his wife, sons and daughters and immediate family.

When something like this befalls somebody close, it becomes a grim reminder that it could happen to any of us. So let's all try to adopt more healthy lifestyles to curb all this `lifestyles disease' threat.

In the meantime, let us all offer our prayers to Brother Malek Maulud. He'll be fighting for his life, and I really pray that the fine gentleman will emerge from the Operation Theatre safe and sound.
